Cologne's Oldtown, Memorials and the Gürzenich

The old town of Cologne is characterised by its quaint and innumerable small pubs, because it is here that the Cologne way of life can be really perceived. Enjoy our specialities, such as a freshly tapped Kölsch and a "Halven Hahn".

Stroll along the Rhine in a relaxed stroll and marvel at the beautiful view of the Hohenzollern Bridge. It has become a tradition as a couple of Cologne lovers to place a castle with engraved names and anniversary here and throw the key into the Rhine - a sign of unending love. There are also equestrian monuments on the Hohenzollern Bridge. On the left bank of the Rhine from the German Emperor Frederick III. and on the right bank of the Rhine from the last emperor Germany Wilhelm II. Another equestrian monument stands on the Heumarkt and is king of Prussia Wilhelm III. dedicated.

The two marketplaces Heumarkt and Alter Markt were formerly and are still the scene for the bustle of the city. Here you can sit down and enjoy the city in countless restaurants, pubs and cafés.

On the Alter Markt you will also find the historical town hall of Köln and if you turn left you will find the Gürzenich, a late Gothic building which is today a popular venue for events.

Keep your eyes open in the old town, because you never know what you will discover. For example, the "Heinzelmännchenbrunnen", whose legend says that little dwarfs do the work of the lazy people at night.

You can reach the Old Town from our house within 20 minutes by subway line 1. Just get off at the Heumarkt and go on you discovery tour.
