Even though Cologne is a city with millions of inhabitants, we like it green. Cologne has more green space to offer than many other cities. So here are a few tips where it is most beautiful and greenest in the city.

Flora & Botanical Garden

More than 12,000 plant species can be found on 5.5 hectares of "Flora". The garden was opened in 1864, after being designed by the architect Peter Josef Lenné. Adjacent to it is the English landscape garden and the cascade of water that was perceived in the Renaissance style.

After 50 years, the Botanical Garden was opened in 1914, where you will find exotic plants from all the world's climate zones.

Green Belts & City Wood

In order to make Cologne greener as a city, two green belts were laid out around Cologne in the 1920s.

The inner belt runs from the university through Ehrenfeld to the flora. The outer belt is crossed by the military ring and the city forest joins it. You can stroll through the city forest and the zoo in Lindenthal.
