Sport in Cologne
We Cologneers not only love our Cathedral, we are also very proud of our sports clubs. In football we root for the 1. FC Köln and the Kölner Haie, our ice hockey team is regularly celebrated for their success as well.
Kölner Haie
Cologne's sharks have been around for over 40 years and in 2017 we were even allowed to host the Ice Hockey World Championship in Cologne. As with football, the sharks also have a home ice rink, the LANXESSarena directly in the district of Deutz which you can easily reach with the underground line 1.
1st FC Cologne
The RheinEnergieStadion regularly turns red-white, completely in the colours of our club - the 1st FC Cologne. And Hennes VII. is then taken from the Cologne Zoo to Junkersdorf, as a mascot he is of course not missing at a home town game. In the years 1962,1964 and 1978 the 1. FC Köln even won the German Football Championship.

The home stadium of the 1. FC Kölns is located in Junkersdorf, practically right on our doorstep. That's why our location offers all fans the perfect starting point to escape the stress of public transport on matchday. You simply walk from the stadium approx. 20 minutes back to the hotel or take the underground line 1 to the stadium within 3 minutes.
The stadium is also not only used for sports, if you want to host an event with up to 50,000 guests, you can also rent the stadium.
Would you like to take a look behind the gates when the stadium is empty? Then take part in one of the evening tours. The floodlight immerses the stadium in a completely different atmosphere.
